Muskies Tournament

The Sartell Muskies founded the Omann Insurance Invitational Tournament in 2007 as a 4 team-1 day event. In 2008 the tournament expanded to 8 teams and 2 fields, as the Muskies recruited the St. Stephen Steves as co-hosts.

The Steves and Muskies immediately invited high caliber teams to the tournament, collecting 7 state tournament teams for the 2008 tourney. Only the Muskies had failed to make the 2007 state tournament. In 2010, three tournament teams; Lastrup, Howard Lake, Sartell; went on to the 2010 state tournament. Three other 2010 teams; Detroit Lakes, St. Stephen, Isanti; all appeared in the 2008 state tournament, with the Steves (final 6) and Isanti (4^th place) playing until the final weekend.

The Elko Express won the 2008 tournament and proceeded to win the class ‘C’ state title the same year. The 2011 state 'C' champs, Isanti, finished 2nd in the Omann Insurance tournament, losing to Nisswa. Nisswa also made state in 2011 and finished in the final 6, but lost a rematch with Isanti in the final weekend at state.

The Steves and the Muskies offer good baseball and scenic home ballparks. The team’s fields are separated by a quick 7 mile drive. Both ballparks are surrounded by dense woods and are well groomed. Both fields have excellent pitching mounds built by Avon’s Pete Schleper.

By using 2 fields this tournament offers a compact schedule. There are no 9:00 AM morning games and no late games on Sunday.
